ABOUT
THIS TRIAL
This trial was developed by the American Association of Sensory and Electrodiagnostic Medicine to evaluate a new treatment for a condition called neuropathic ischemia. Neuropathic ischemia occurs when there is decreased blood flow to the small nerves in your legs, ankles, and feet.
This can cause many different symptoms, such as pain, burning, tingling, strange sensations, numbness, swelling, poor balance, and trouble sensing temperature. It may even be associated with restless legs syndrome.
Until now, there have been no effective treatments for this condition. Without effective treatments, symptoms can continue to worsen leading to increasing pain, progressive numbness, worsening balance problems increasing the risk of falls and fractures, sleep disturbances, depression, anxiety, and decreased quality of life.
Symptoms of neuropathic ischemia may include:
- Pain
- Burning
- Numbness
- Tingling
- Stabbing or Shooting Sensations
- Unsteady Gait
- Cramps
- Stinging
- Restless Legs
- Poor Balance
- Leg Weakness
- Pins and Needles

GOALS OF THE

The goal of our medical researchers in Erie is focused on relieving lower extremity pain. Our trial is to establish the effectiveness of a new therapy for neuropathic ischemia. We hope to show an improvement in nerve function as well as improved patient symptoms. The ultimate goal for our patients during our clinical trials is an improved quality of life and preservation of independence. At our facility in Erie, medical researchers are leading the charge in reducing lower extremity pain for patients with a variety of leg and ankle symptoms.
